Our home for the season

What comes to mind when we think about A Thing of Sense?

Is it just a candle brand, a scent story? A feeling, an expression? A conversation, an experience? A reminder, a way of being? Perhaps, it is all of that. It can be many things, and then one: a memory. Many memories (or moments), individually and cumulatively.

"What you remember defines who you are." — a line from one of Julian Barnes' writings that I've resonated deeply with for a long time. In many ways, it felt like an answer, almost, to the questions I often ponder about. The other tangible (or not?) answer being: scent. The idea that our sense of smell has a direct relation to creating and retaining memories, allowing us to remember things in richer, deeper ways–continues to fascinate and hold me. I like to think that's what A Thing of Sense is for me.

As we're mid-way through the year (our 4th!), we've had some time to think about what this all mean for us; as a brand, as a business, as a safe space for us to keep doing what we love to do. We've also thought about what the AToS experience could be, and how we can translate that into different spaces—when the time comes.

For the first time since our early days, we will be launching a full-fledged retail experience in a physical space, Apartment, that feels every bit right and timely. We've spent the past months planning, discussing and putting together—what we hope to be, our way of retelling our story and beyond that, to extend a dwelling place of sorts, to everyone of you who may or may not be seeking respite.

Come hide out from the wild world with us.
